Such Terror

There is, here is, there is such terror
As takes hold of the whole body
Flash freezes it, impounds it,

Removes it somewhere else
That is both in mind and out of mind
Suspends logic of all contradiction

Felt and yet also waiting to  be felt
Remaining impassive implacable 
Down through the decades and all changes

Embezzler of pleasures, presence of absence
That is absence of presence, secret abyss
That is blanket sharer of every kiss

That is on the lips of almost death,
Perhaps escaped or not, then that stays now
