Song's Vanity

Should song purge itself of its vanity
or is vanity not quite only vain,
but signature of sound willing to be
grace and gaiety in sun and moonlight?

even the darkest and the saddest of songs
partake of the quick spark of  vanity
that is not in vain, because it is life
and its notes conjure survival of hope
