Green

Green is mood indicative of summer,
green deepening shade into shade, sunlight
made substantial, the fact of whose matter
is life sustaining life, peaceable heat

in this instant that mixes luxury
and mystery, hardly a hint of breeze,
the leaves of the trees are lax but not limp,
in silent conjunction the work goes on

I, too, of the lineage of the sun,
know that these greens betoken me,
that I live in synergy with the green
that never needs to write to claim a name

we share roots and this canopy of words
that shades green into other shades of green
